A Fourth Grade Lesson on Pattern Blocks

This video is from an actual classroom.  As you approach interpreting it, you have been given some information to prepare – including a brief lesson plan and a diagram showing what the pattern blocks look like.  Spend some time reviewing the preparation material, then proceed to interpret the lesson.

In this fourth grade classroom, the lesson is designed to help student’s review their knowledge of pattern blocks and help them prepare for future study of geometry.  Students will have the opportunity review the following key vocabulary:

  • Square
  • Rectangle
  • Triangle
  • Hexagon
  • Parallelogram
  • Rhombus
  • Trapezoid

Within this lesson, we will spend some time exploring the concept of parallel and how this connects to geometrical shapes.
